This popular monthly practice is an ancient form of deep listening that is useful for anyone, from the very beginner to the most advanced practitioner. It offers participants a vehicle for authentic spiritual reflection, connection, and inner transformation.
The practice is called Dhammanusati, the Contemplation of the Dharma. It consists of randomly selecting a scriptural passage of the Buddha’s word (Buddhavacana), which is then read and quietly contemplated for its personal meaning and call to action. It is said that to hear the Buddha’s word is to directly connect the practitioner to the Buddha himself. In other words, Dhammanusati allows an intimate dialogue between the reader and our living Buddha nature.
As adapted by Rev, Senpai, Dhammanusati comprises 4 steps: reading, meditating, contemplating, and sharing. The practice allows the inner voice to reveal the personal meaning of the text and then uncovers what the text calls each of us to do in life. After the practice, Rev. Senpai will offer a short Q & A session to discuss the historical, religious, and philosophic content of the read text.
Are you intrigued? We invite you to attend this very special deep hearing practice. Open to all, Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike. Presented by Rev. Senpai G. Lewis-Bastías.
