There will be a special Buddhist gathering on the story and significance of the historical Buddha’s enlightenment. This Buddhist holiday practice remembers the day the historical Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree over 2,500 years ago in Bodh Gaya, India. Event includes a presentation of the story, sitting meditation, mindfulness practice, and chants for compassion, and more. All are welcome. Lead by Shin teacher. Rev. G. Lewis-Bastías.
Rev. Dr. Taitetsu Unno. There will be a remembrance and gratitude practice in honor of the life, teachings, and legacy of Rev. Dr. Taitetsu Unno who passed away at the age of 85 on December 13th. Dr. Unno teachings and personality had been instrumental in the founding of our Buddhist community in 2001.
Dharma Talk topic and Q & A is titled, The Shining Star. The Buddhist holiday season is upon us and this special talk will explore the essence of the enlightenment from the story of the Buddha’s awakening while gazing upon the morning star in the early dawn. The fruit of practice is awakening. It begins when we profoundly see the Three Marks of Existence and we honestly look at and accept our deepest shadows. In Buddhist teaching, there is not a war between light and darkness but through awareness the light gradually overcomes and dissolves the power of our shadow side unfolding a transformational sense of joy, peace, and compassion.
Potluck Shindig: There will be a potluck holiday mini party after the gathering. If you would like to bring a food and drink offering, please let us know by emailing us at email@example.com
Sliding scale suggested donation $10 – $20
A short Introduction to Meditation Training session will be held before the gathering at 9:45 a.m.
This will be our last gathering in 2014. Happy Holidays!
