Melissa Lewis, RN, BSN, and Community Educator for the Clear Light Society for CT, a charitable organization serving the terminally ill and their families will discuss the use of nonsectarian practices, pioneered and developed by Patricia Shelton in 1971. Through the aid of these unique contemplative practices, the sick person discovers that the worries and distress that occupy the mind can gradually subside, suffusing the mind with deep calm. Repeated Clear Light sessions create a respite from fears, worries, and other painful states of mind. As serenity is developed and expanded, the mind gradually attains the calmness of a still pond. At this point, peaceful heart, clear mind are not just words, but a harmonious state of being beyond hope and fear.
The Clear Light Society has provided support for families and their loved ones, not only during the final months of life, but also at the very moment of death. Countless doctors, nurses, chaplains, psychologists, social workers, and other hospice personnel, as well as families, have been trained in these fresh, dynamic processes.
Having trained with the Founding Director since 1995, Mrs. Lewis now provides workshops and public talks in addition to serving individuals and their families. She is currently employed by Hartford Healthcare at Home and continues to serve the CLS of CT on a volunteer basis.
