$10 suggested donation at the door
Our first book will be River of Fire, River of Water by Taitetsu Unno
Our monthly Discovering Buddhism Drop-in Class and Practice offers participants a unique and non-committing opportunity to learn about Buddhism as a living tradition and in a gentle and structured format. Join Dharma Teacher Senpai Lewis-Bastías on the 4th Sunday of the month for a potentially transformational learning experience.
Our classes have a similar but abridged format to our General Practice on the 2nd Sunday of the month; every session offers participants a variety of basic meditation practices such as voice and sitting meditation. However instead of a random talk and discussion on Buddhism the discussion will be based on a selection from a book, using the same book over several sessions to give students and those interested in Buddhism a lay-oriented and supportive learning environment.
How Does the Class & Practice Work?
There is a 4 Step process. First of all, there are no tuition fees or even an online registration form to fill out. We just ask for a $10 donation at the door to help share the costs.
1) Join our Buddhist Faith Fellowship’s Facebook Group to learn what book is being covered and retrieve the current assignment. The assignment is located in the FILE tab on the upper right.
2) Read the listed chapters for the next meeting and jot down some notes according to the assignment.
3) Attend our Drop-in Class and Practice and begin practicing and learning about Buddhism in clear and structured way. The class not only presents an intellectual approach to the Buddhist teachings but also offers a direct and non-conceptual engagement via meditation practice. Thus, the first segment of Drop-in focuses on meditation practice and then switches into the seminar class.
4) We highly recommend you purchase the current book to be studied and read through the chapters to be discussed for the next class. Doing this will help you get the most out of our Drop-in Class & Practice. However, if you did not get a chance to read the assigned chapters, no problem, come and join us anyway on the 4th Sunday of the month. Whether or not you have read or even completed the assignment your attendance will guarantee you plenty of practice and fruitful learning experience.
