Buddhist Kirtan Night: Mantra, Rhythm & Sacred Silence

Let your voice, breath, and heart soften into a powerful evening of mantra, rising and falling vibrations, and shared stillness.

Join us for an evening of Buddhist-style Kirtan, a unique and immersive experience of mantra, rhythm, and stillness designed to open the heart and calm the mind. This two-hour session blends the joyful energy of chanting with the quiet potency of silent sitting, creating a dynamic, felt experience that nourishes the body, mind, and spirit.

Each chant begins subtly, gradually building momentum, then softening over a round or two. Between every two or three chants, we pause for five minutes of silent sitting, allowing the vibration and energy of the sound to settle deeply into the body. Participants often find these silent intervals to be the most transformative moments of the evening.

Mantras you will experience include:

  • Om Mani Padme Hum (Compassion)
  • Om Muni Muni Shakyamuni (Wisdom)
  • Om Amitabhaya Buddhaya Dharmaya Sanghaya (Light, refuge, awakening)
  • Om Tare Tutture Ture Soha (Protection and liberation)
  • Om Amrita Teje Hara Hum (Purification and transformative energy)
    …and more.

The evening features a variety of traditional kirtan instruments, creating a rich and accessible experience for all. You can chant, hum, sway, or simply sit and absorb the energy. No experience is required. All are welcome.

Please bring a pillow or blanket if you wish to lie on the floor. Yoga mats and chairs will also be available. The meditation hall overlooks the inspirational Shôyôan Teien Japanese Garden, providing a serene and uplifting backdrop for your Kirtan experience.
