Obon: The Buddhist Day of the Dead

On this day, we remember with gratitude our ancestors and those friends who have passed on.  Our Obon event includes the Flower Ceremony in which participants will receive a small white or red carnation pin symbolizing the living or deceased parents. This is an emotionally moving experience and underscores the Buddha’s teachings of interconnectedness, gratitude, and love. You are welcomed to bring a photo of a departed family member that may be placed on the altar.  Non-traditional date.

Also, there will be a talk and discussion, titled DEATH AND ON WHITE ASHES, which will looked into the Buddhist view of death and the afterlife.

Participants may bring photos of the departed loved ones to be placed on the altar. This event is open to all; Buddhists and Non-buddhists.

Sliding scale suggested donation $10 – $20

A short Introduction to Meditation Training session will be held before the gathering at 9:45 a.m.
